Frequently asked questions
Pier caps and coping
Are pier caps and pillar caps the same product?
Both terms are used for a cap at the top of a masonry pillar. This range consists of concrete four-way caps. Confirm the finished pillar dimensions and the selected cap size before ordering.
Details on Concrete pier caps for the finished pillarCan I order any rectangular size?
Rectangular caps are offered in the sizes already produced. Send your measurements to check the existing range; manufacture to any arbitrary dimension is not promised.
Details on Concrete pier caps for the finished pillarDo the caps have drip grooves?
Ask Ristone to confirm the actual profile of the selected piece. The generated detail image is illustrative and does not establish the presence of a drip groove on the product supplied.
Details on Concrete pier caps for the finished pillarCan concrete coping or pier caps develop cracks over time?
Ristone manufactures these concrete products using a controlled production process. Long-term behaviour also depends on transport, installation and use. Mechanical impact, unsuitable handling or incorrect installation are examples of situations in which cracks can occur. Follow the handling and installation instructions; any reported problem is assessed individually before its cause is established.
Details on Concrete pier caps for the finished pillarDetails on Concrete coping stones for boundary wallsWhat do the sloping faces of coping and pier caps do?
The sloping geometry helps rainwater run off and reduces the possibility of water standing on the surface. Check the finished wall or pier width, cover dimensions, overhang and construction layout. Select the profile against the actual project dimensions.
Details on Concrete pier caps for the finished pillarDetails on Concrete coping stones for boundary wallsHow do water and frost affect concrete pier caps?
Ristone pier caps are intended for outdoor use, with a hydrophobic treatment in the concrete mix to reduce water absorption and help lower the risk of freeze-thaw deterioration. On a UK or Irish garden or entrance pier, correct installation should let rain run off the sloping cap faces without standing on the pier top. Follow the applicable installation instructions. No frost-resistance class or freeze-thaw cycle count is declared; confirm suitability for the exposure of your project before ordering.
Details on Concrete pier caps for the finished pillarHow long are the coping stones and how do I plan longer runs?
The listed Ristone three-way coping pieces are 500 mm long. The quoted width and length are piece dimensions. Longer runs use multiple pieces; joints, end conditions, end gaps and cuts are worked out separately for each wall section before ordering. Pieces of 1,000 or 2,000 mm are not in the current range.
Details on Concrete coping stones for boundary wallsDetails on Pier caps and wall coping: sizing guideDetails on Coping quantities: joints, cuts and wall runsCan I divide the total wall length by 500 mm?
That gives a nominal length comparison only. Record individual runs and agree joint widths, ends and the cutting layout before the order quantity is confirmed.
Details on Concrete coping stones for boundary wallsIs straight coping also listed?
The historic range also lists straight-profile pieces in 500 mm lengths. Keep the profile explicit in your enquiry and ask Ristone to confirm the current piece and dimensions.
Details on Concrete coping stones for boundary wallsWhat helps prevent coping stones coming loose?
Use a stable, clean and properly prepared support, fixing materials suitable for exterior use and correctly formed joints. Follow the applicable installation instructions. If coping comes loose, Ristone assesses the cause before recommending a remedy.
Details on Concrete coping stones for boundary wallsWhat should I check before using wall coping in a frost-exposed location?
Ristone coping is intended for outdoor use. A hydrophobic treatment within the concrete mix reduces water absorption, helping to lower the risk of freeze-thaw deterioration. For an exposed UK or Irish boundary wall, follow the installation instructions and ensure rain can run off the sloping faces rather than pond on top of the wall. No frost-resistance class or freeze-thaw cycle count is declared; check the available product information against your project requirements before ordering.
Details on Concrete coping stones for boundary wallsHow much should a pier cap overhang the pillar?
As a guide, 30–50 mm on each side of the finished pillar, depending on the shape of the cap and how it is fixed. The final size is confirmed with the quotation.
Details on Pier caps and wall coping: sizing guideDo I measure the pillar before or after cladding?
After. Measure the finished pillar, including render, stone veneer or brick slips. If the cladding goes on later, add its thickness and the adhesive layer to each face.
Details on Pier caps and wall coping: sizing guideDo you deliver pier caps and coping to the UK?
Yes, on a quotation basis. Transport, customs duties and import VAT are paid by the buyer. Products are made in Romania and quoted per order, depending on product, quantity and destination.

Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityWhich models have corner pieces listed?
The common product data lists C60M corner pieces for Belgrad and C05B corner pieces for Ribe. Confirm current availability and the corner detail for your installation.
Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityCan I use the historic m² per box to place an order?
Brick slip quantity calculations take an approximately 10 mm joint into account. Confirm the current box count and installed coverage before ordering. The convention is not confirmed uniformly across the range, and Oxford packing must be confirmed in the quotation.
Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityCan the cladding deteriorate after its first winter?
The products are intended for exterior use and the concrete mix includes a hydrophobic treatment to limit water absorption. Reduced absorption helps reduce the risk of freeze-thaw deterioration. Correct installation and avoiding standing water matter; no frost-resistance class is declared.
Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityDetails on Stone-effect concrete claddingWhat if the slips vary in size and courses will not line up?
Products are cast in moulds to nominal model dimensions. Small dimensional variations can occur during casting and curing. Check the pieces and trial the alignment before installation, allowing for the specified joints. Differences beyond acceptable variation must be assessed before fitting; no numerical tolerance is declared.
Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityDetails on Stone-effect concrete claddingHow does the cladding colour change with sunlight and age?
Mineral pigments are incorporated throughout the concrete mix and have good stability in light and weather. Surface appearance can evolve with sunlight, moisture, deposits and use. Subtle shade changes do not automatically mean the product has lost its properties.
Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityDetails on Stone-effect concrete claddingCan I order a sample before choosing cladding for a UK, Irish or EU project?
Paid samples can be supplied depending on the product and availability. Sample cost and delivery are quoted before confirmation, including separate transport pricing for UK and Irish enquiries. For large orders, deducting the sample cost from the order can be considered.
Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityDetails on Stone-effect concrete claddingWill the brick slip colour match the website photographs exactly?
Lighting, screen settings, texture and photographic conditions can change how the shade appears. Colour is incorporated through the concrete using mineral pigments. Small batch-to-batch variations are possible; for large areas, order the required quantity from one production batch where possible.
Details on Concrete brick slips, from texture to quantityCan very thin cladding pieces crack during handling or transport?
Very thin slips, approximately 7–10 mm, can crack during handling and transport. Inspect on receipt, photograph damage, record it on the transport documents and report it to Ristone. We assess each case and decide the solution after checking the cause: a top-up, replacement or another solution. Any allowance is confirmed in the quotation.

Details on York C61 concrete brick slipsAre brick slip corner pieces always made in one piece?
No. Amsterdam C54M, Bristol C25M, Belgrad C60M and York C61M are monocomponent, one L-shaped piece. Ribe C05B is bicomponent, two pieces assembled at the corner.
Details on Brick slip corners: pieces, models and orderingHow many brick slip corners do I need per metre?
Measure external corner height in metres and identify the corner-piece height in the model sheet. The sheet does not give a pieces-per-metre figure; the quantity, joint layout and pack rounding must be confirmed in the quotation.
Details on Brick slip corners: pieces, models and orderingWhat if my brick slip model has no corner piece?
Agree the corner detail according to that model's installation instructions before ordering. Berlin, Berna, Corby and Oliva have no corner piece listed. Oxford also has no corner listed, and its packaging must be confirmed with Ristone using the current sheet.
Details on Brick slip corners: pieces, models and orderingDo I fit corner pieces or flat brick slips first?
The installation order and course layout follow the chosen model's installation instructions, confirmed with Ristone before work starts. Request these instructions with the quotation.
Details on Brick slip corners: pieces, models and orderingShould I choose the cladding before the pier caps?
Yes. Establish the cladding and adhesive thickness on each face, then size caps and coping from the finished dimensions.
Details on Brick or stone cladding for pillars and plinthsHow do I measure cladding for a rectangular pillar?
For four fully exposed faces, use 2 × (width + depth) × clad height. Deduct hidden areas and record external corner heights separately.
Details on Brick or stone cladding for pillars and plinthsDoes plinth cladding replace waterproofing?
No. It is a finish. Waterproofing, its junctions and the suitability of the substrate must be resolved in the project design.
Details on Brick or stone cladding for pillars and plinthsCan I combine stone on pillars with brick slips on the wall base?
The combination can be considered, with model and substrate suitability checked first. Include the different finish thicknesses when sizing caps and coping, and compare samples together.
Details on Brick or stone cladding for pillars and plinthsHow many brick slips are there in a square metre?
It depends on the slip size and the joint. With a 10 mm joint, a 240 × 65 mm slip needs about 53 per m² and a 240 × 73 mm slip about 48. Use the formula 1 ÷ ((length + joint) × (height + joint)), with all sizes in metres.
Details on Concrete brick slips: quantity per square metreShould I calculate brick slips with or without the joint?
With the joint, because the joint takes up part of the wall. Then check how coverage per box is stated: some figures are the net slip area, others include the joint. Dividing a wall area by a net figure gives too many boxes; dividing a net area by a figure that includes the joint gives too few.
Details on Concrete brick slips: quantity per square metreCan concrete brick slips be used on tall residential buildings in England?
On a relevant building as defined in regulation 7(4) of the Building Regulations 2010 (broadly, a building that has a storey at least 18 m above ground and contains one or more dwellings, an institution or a room for residential purposes), materials in the external walls must achieve Class A1 or A2-s1, d0, subject to the exemptions in regulation 7(3). Ask for the product's classification document before specifying it; Ristone confirms which documents exist for each product.
Details on Concrete brick slips: quantity per square metreDo you deliver brick slips to the UK?
Yes, on a quotation basis, depending on product, quantity and destination. Transport, customs duties and import VAT are paid by the buyer.
Details on Concrete brick slips: quantity per square metreWhat is the difference between concrete and clay brick slips?
Clay slips are fired ceramic, either cut from facing bricks or made as thin units; concrete slips are cast from pigmented concrete in moulds. Compare them on size, weight per m², corner pieces, colour range and the documents available for the exact product.
Details on Concrete vs clay brick slips: what to compareWhich standard covers brick slips?
Ruppik’s article in Zi 8/2015 described ceramic slip declarations using EN 14411 and EN ISO 10545 tests and discussed EN 771-1 where a slip is part of a facing brick. It is historical context, not a current rule for every clay slip. Ask the supplier which current declaration basis applies to the exact product.
Details on Concrete vs clay brick slips: what to compareCan brick slips be used on tall residential buildings in England?
On a relevant building as defined in regulation 7(4) of the Building Regulations 2010 (broadly, a building that has a storey at least 18 m above ground and contains one or more dwellings, an institution or a room for residential purposes), materials in the external walls must achieve Class A1 or A2-s1, d0, subject to the exemptions in regulation 7(3). Ask for the product's classification document before specifying it; Ristone confirms which documents exist for each product.
Details on Concrete vs clay brick slips: what to compareDo concrete brick slips come with corner pieces?
In the Ristone range, Belgrad has a one-piece corner and Ribe a two-part corner. For Oxford and Berlin, ask how corners are finished before ordering.
Details on Concrete vs clay brick slips: what to compareStone and cladding
Can manufactured stone go over external insulation (ETICS)?
Only if the insulation system is designed for a tile or stone finish. Systems with renderings and systems with discontinuous claddings, such as stone, are assessed under different European Assessment Documents. Ask the insulation system's supplier for the assessment and instructions that cover a cladding finish.
Details on Manufactured stone cladding: what to specifyHow heavy is concrete stone cladding?
It depends on the model. From Ristone's product data, its concrete stone cladding weighs about 20 to 49 kg per m², before adhesive. Compare the figure for your chosen model with the limits of your substrate or insulation system.
Details on Manufactured stone cladding: what to specifyHow is manufactured stone different from natural stone?
Natural stone slabs for cladding are covered by EN 1469 and vary in colour and pattern from block to block. Concrete stone cladding is cast in moulds from pigmented concrete, with defined shades and data per model. Compare weight, corners, colour and documents rather than the label.
Details on Manufactured stone cladding: what to specifyDo you deliver stone cladding to the UK?

The historic catalogue lists D70 at 720 × 225 mm and 35 mm thick. Confirm the current dimensions and the intended use before ordering.
Details on Wood-effect garden stepping stonesCan D70 be used for vehicles or a pool surround?
A vehicle-load capacity and slip-resistance rating are not established in the available product information. Ask Ristone to check the proposed use before specifying the product.
Details on Wood-effect garden stepping stonesDo the garden stepping stones have a confirmed slip-resistance result?
The stepping stones are intended for pedestrian use. We do not have a confirmed slip-resistance test result. Check the proposed application and conditions of use with Ristone before choosing. Clean with water and a mild detergent; avoid aggressive methods and acids without checking compatibility. Maintenance and any additional protection should be agreed for the selected product.
Details on Wood-effect garden stepping stonesWhat matters when laying stepping stones where water may freeze?
Ristone stepping stones are intended for outdoor use. The concrete mix contains a hydrophobic treatment that reduces water absorption and helps lower the risk of freeze-thaw deterioration. For UK and Irish garden paths, follow the installation instructions and provide drainage through the bedding so water does not collect beneath the stones or pond on their surface. Ask for installation guidance for your ground conditions. No frost-resistance class or freeze-thaw cycle count is declared.

Details on Contractor project quotation checklistCan one batch be reserved for a phased project?
Batch reservation and phased delivery can be considered after the quantity and programme have been checked. Neither is guaranteed automatically.
Details on Contractor project quotation checklistCan you provide the documents in our specification?
List the required documents in the enquiry. Availability is checked for the particular product before the quotation; documents that do not exist are not promised.
Details on Contractor project quotation checklistHow many coping stones do I need?
Divide each wall run by 500 mm and round up for a first estimate. The final count depends on joints, end gaps, cuts and whether suitable offcuts can be reused.
Details on Coping quantities: joints, cuts and wall runsWhat joint width should I allow?
Agree the joint width and end gaps with Ristone and the installer for the chosen model. There is no universal joint width in this calculation.
Details on Coping quantities: joints, cuts and wall runsCan an offcut be used on another wall run?
Only if its length, edges and profile orientation suit the next position. Ristone and the installer check this in the cutting layout.
Details on Coping quantities: joints, cuts and wall runsWhere can I check the product details?
Use the pier-cap, coping-stone and brick-slip pages for the relevant catalogue details. The technical data page explains which current documents and packing information to request before specification.
Details on Plan the details before you orderWhich countries do you deliver to?
Ristone can organise deliveries to EU countries and to the UK, depending on product, quantity and destination, on a logistics quotation. Send your postcode and quantities and you receive the cost and conditions before you confirm.
Details on Pallet delivery from Romania: how it worksCan I order a small quantity?
Small quantities can be considered, depending on the product and availability. There is no single minimum for all products; for small quantities Ristone quotes packing and transport separately, so you can decide whether it makes sense.
Details on Pallet delivery from Romania: how it worksWhat if something arrives damaged?
Check the goods on arrival, photograph any damage and note it on the transport documents before signing, then send the photos to Ristone. Each case is assessed and resolved, for example by topping up the quantity or replacing the damaged pieces.
Details on Pallet delivery from Romania: how it worksHow far apart should stepping stones be?
Test centre positions on the ground with the people who will use the path. Spacing depends on their steps, the slab orientation and the route. There is no universal comfortable gap.
Details on Wood-effect stepping stones: planning a pathHow many slabs are needed for a 10,000 mm path?
If the first and last slab centres are at the route endpoints and the target centre spacing is 700 mm, rounding to 14 intervals gives 15 slabs, with actual spacing about 714 mm. Confirm that adjusted spacing on site.
Details on Wood-effect stepping stones: planning a pathCan D70 slabs take cars?
The historical D70 sheet describes pedestrian paths. Do not specify vehicle traffic without explicit technical confirmation from Ristone.
Details on Wood-effect stepping stones: planning a pathIs G70 the same as a D70 stepping slab?
No. The historical G70 sheet describes a 10 mm thick facing product. D70 is a 35 mm thick slab. Confirm the current intended use and installation requirements for each product separately.
Details on Wood-effect stepping stones: planning a pathCan I see a completed project?
These photographs were supplied by Ristone. We do not arrange visits to customers’ properties; telephone ahead for a factory visit.
Details on Projects with Ristone concrete productsDo you have photos in my chosen colour?
Ask for photographs of the model and colour you are considering. These images do not identify an exact model or shade; check your choice against a sample.
Details on Projects with Ristone concrete productsWhat happens if a storm, fallen tree or impact damages the products?
Send photographs and details so the situation can be assessed individually. Ristone distinguishes possible product defects from damage caused by external factors, impact, accidents or weather events. The solution is determined after the cause is identified, in accordance with the warranty conditions and applicable law.
Will I be told if production or delivery is delayed?
Confirmed orders are followed through preparation and dispatch. If a situation may change the original timing, Ristone informs you in advance, explains the situation and gives an updated estimate. Transport updates are based on confirmations from the carrier.
When do I pay, and is a deposit required?
Payment terms are agreed when the order is confirmed, according to the products, quantity and delivery arrangements. For made-to-order products, the quotation sets out the deposit and balance terms. Payment for factory collection is confirmed before collection.
What warranty applies, and can I return surplus pieces?
Products carry statutory rights and guarantees under applicable law. Report a possible non-conformity with photographs and order details for assessment. Returns and surplus pieces are considered according to the order type, product characteristics and applicable legal provisions.
How do I get help with a problem after payment?
Use the contact details on the website for questions about your order, payment, production or delivery. Enquiries are passed to the responsible person. Ristone checks the order situation and explains the steps needed to resolve it.
What is included in the final project price?
Prices are provided on quotation. The final quotation identifies the products, quantities, unit prices, total value and delivery conditions. Transport and any logistics costs are communicated separately before order confirmation.
Are there fixed volume discount thresholds?
There are no fixed thresholds across the range. Pricing depends on the product, model and quantity; commercial terms for larger orders can be negotiated individually. Transport is calculated separately according to quantity, weight, palletisation and destination.
Which applications need checking before installation?
Check the substrate compatibility, exposure, fixing method and installation materials for the selected model before fitting. Products should not be used in applications for which they were not designed or verified. The complete limits of use have not yet been established; ask about your proposed application before specifying.
Does Ristone carry out the installation?
Installation is carried out by the customer or their building team. Ristone provides technical information and recommendations on compatible materials, substrate preparation, adhesives, joints and installation stages. Confirm the instructions available for the selected product.
Can my carrier collect an order from the factory in Romania?
You or your chosen carrier can collect from the factory in Bacău, Romania, with prior booking by telephone. Confirm product availability, order preparation and collection arrangements before travelling or sending your carrier.
How soon can I expect a reply to my quotation request?
We confirm receipt of your request. For standard quotations, we aim to reply within 24 working hours. For complex projects, large quantities or delivery outside Romania, including the UK, Ireland and other EU countries, the response time varies and is communicated to you. This is a response-time objective, not a contractual deadline or guarantee.
Technical data
What is a declaration of performance?
Under Regulation (EU) No 305/2011, it is the manufacturer's document stating performance against essential characteristics where a harmonised standard covers the product or a European Technical Assessment has been issued for it, subject to the regulation's exceptions. The new framework uses a declaration of performance and conformity. Ask for it with the quotation, for the exact product you are buying.
Details on Technical documents to ask a supplier forWhich EU regulation applies to construction products now?
Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 applies in its main part from 8 January 2026, but product families move to it one by one. A product covered by a standard cited under the old Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 in principle stays under the old rules until a new harmonised standard is cited. Ask the supplier which framework applies to their product.
Details on Technical documents to ask a supplier forDoes Ristone supply technical documents?
Ristone confirms with each quotation which documents exist for each product. Ask for them with your enquiry. Nothing about a product's classification is assumed from a photo or a catalogue line.
Details on Technical documents to ask a supplier forWhat about the United Kingdom?
Great Britain has its own product marking and building rules. Ask your specifier or building control which documents your project needs, and ask Ristone which documents exist for the product before you order.
Details on Technical documents to ask a supplier forCan I download current technical sheets here?
Current technical sheets and DoP or CE documents have not been supplied for publication here. A Declaration of Performance or CE documentation is not confirmed here for each product. Ask Ristone for the documents available for the selected product; their applicability and content are checked per product against your project requirements before ordering.
Details on Technical data for your specificationDoes the catalogue establish a fire classification?
No. No fire classification is declared on this site. Ask for the applicable product documentation and have it checked against the project requirements.
