Concrete cladding colour: production batches, white deposits and care

For a continuous wall, colour planning starts with the order quantity. Ristone’s concrete cladding is coloured through the mix with mineral pigments, but small shade differences between production batches are possible. Samples, the batch plan and the installation layout should be considered together.

Compare samples before placing the order

Colour on a screen can differ from the material because of lighting, display settings and texture. Request a sample if the shade is important, and compare proposed stone, brick slips, caps and coping together in natural light.

Through-coloured concrete has pigment in the material rather than only a painted surface layer. This does not promise that a scratched surface will look identical to the original finish. Ristone advises that subtle shade changes can occur with exposure, without automatically indicating loss of product properties.

Plan the quantity for the whole visible surface

Order the full quantity for a continuous surface together so that it can come from one batch where possible. Before confirming quantities, include the agreed cuts, corners and any spare pieces. Ask Ristone how to combine pieces from different boxes during installation.

For a phased project, raise batch reservation or staged delivery in the enquiry. Both can be considered after quantities and dates are checked; neither is guaranteed automatically. Retain the invoice, model, colour and any available batch details if an extension or replacement may be needed later.

Understand white deposits before cleaning

Efflorescence can form when water carries soluble salts to the surface and evaporates. BRANZ identifies salts, moisture and evaporation as the three necessary conditions. Its guidance distinguishes powdery soluble deposits from harder deposits formed as calcium hydroxide carbonates. Persistent deposits can indicate continuing water entry (BRANZ, Bulletin 593, 2016).

Ristone states that efflorescence does not automatically indicate structural deterioration. Send photographs if you are unsure what the deposit is.

Use the product-specific cleaning advice

Ristone recommends a soft brush and gentle methods for its decorative concrete. Brush loose powder promptly and collect it. BRANZ advises against washing soluble salts back into the wall. Do not use a wire brush or an aggressive method that could damage the finish.

Before chemical treatment, ask Ristone to confirm compatibility. Test an approved cleaner on a small inconspicuous area and assess it fully dry. Follow the treatment’s application instructions, including any pre-wetting requirement; a dry assessment does not mean every cleaner must be applied dry (BRANZ, 2016).

For recurring deposits, investigate water entry as well as cleaning the surface. Check the wall-top protection and waterproofing junctions with the installer. The pillar and plinth planning guide explains why these details need attention before cladding.

Water-repellent treatment and routine care

Ristone describes a water-repellent treatment incorporated during manufacture to limit water absorption. It does not replace drainage, correctly formed joints or the project’s waterproofing details. Confirm the treatment and any additional protection for the particular product.

Routine repainting is not required without a technical reason. Clean gently when needed, avoid aggressive substances and ask for compatible cleaning advice for persistent oil, rust or paint marks. There is no universal cleaning or resealing interval in this guidance.

Ask for advice with the product details

Send clear photographs, the model and colour from the invoice, the age of the installation, its exposure and a list of treatments already tried. Ristone assesses cases individually from the information and installation conditions.

For a new order or replacement enquiry, include the delivery country and postcode. Ristone supplies from Romania to the UK and the rest of Europe on a quotation basis, depending on product, quantity and destination. For the UK, transport, customs duties and import VAT are paid by the buyer.

Before you order.

Will a later batch match the original cladding?

Small shade differences between batches are possible. Order the full quantity for one surface together where possible and keep the model, colour and invoice details for later enquiries.

Does through-coloured concrete need routine repainting?

Ristone does not recommend periodic repainting without a technical reason. The colour is part of the concrete, although subtle shade changes can occur with exposure.

How should I remove white powdery deposits?

For its products, Ristone recommends gentle cleaning with a soft brush. Collect loosened salts, and ask Ristone before using chemicals or treating deposits that do not brush off.

Can I use an acid cleaner?

Do not use acids without checking compatibility with the particular product. Test any approved treatment in a small inconspicuous area, follow its application instructions and assess the finish after it has dried.
